Charities that Help Homeless Pregnant Women

Aside from shelters, there are also other charities that help pregnant women experiencing homelessness. Here are some of them:

1. Volunteers of America

What they offer: comprehensive addiction recovery program for mothers

Founded in 1896, Volunteers of America offers charity programs for the most vulnerable members of society. This includes homeless pregnant women, veterans, and at-risk youths, among others. Their Freedom House program, in particular, offers addiction recovery services for mothers and pregnant women. They operate in multiple cities across the US.

2. Our Father’s House Soup Kitchen

What we offer: freshly-cooked meals and other basic necessities in a judgment-free environment

Our Father’s House Soup Kitchen offers hot meals and other basic necessities to the poor and homeless in South Florida. But more than just meals, we also provide a safe haven where homeless people, including pregnant women, can dine without fear of judgment and discrimination. We’ve been operating for over 30 years and have served almost a million meals to date. 

3. Postpartum Support International

What they offer: postpartum support resources

As per the CDC, about 1 in 8 women who’ve recently given birth experiences postpartum depression (PPD). Homeless women, in particular, are more at risk of PPD. This is what Postpartum Support International hopes to address.

They offer educational resources and online and offline support for mothers experiencing PPD symptoms. They also offer standardized training and education for health care providers and professionals who work directly with pregnant women and new mothers.

4. National Diaper Bank Network

What they offer: diaper support

Diapers are a basic necessity for newborn infants. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford them. National Diaper Network addresses this need by connecting mothers with local diaper banks. They also organize conferences and campaigns to raise awareness on the need for diapers, especially for families from marginalized backgrounds.
